Bio
Born in Montpelier, Vermont, Timothy (Tim) Burgess has been a lifelong advocate for political and social issues, inspired by his parents' encouragement to take action. After being incarcerated in 2004 and released in 2009, he became a passionate advocate for those impacted by the criminal justice system. In 2023, he completed the "Leading with Conviction" cohort at Just Leadership USA and was appointed Co-Chair of the Vermont Corrections Monitoring Committee. He continues to engage the Vermont Legislature in reducing extreme sentencing, including ending life without parole, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Prison Research Innovation and Network. In 2024, he led the "Day of Empathy" in Vermont, all while continuously advocating for incarcerated citizens and their families.
