Steven “Farooq” Quinlan
Co-Founder & Program Director
Bio
Steven "Farooq" Quinlan committed a horrific murder more than 25 years ago, a past that could have defined him forever. Instead, he chose a different path - one of profound transformation and service. Today, he is a respected leader and a mentor to countless individuals, both inside and outside the prison walls.
For more than 15 years, Farooq has been a pillar of his incarcerated community at Massachusetts Correctional Institution Norfolk (MCI-Norfolk). He has poured his energy into building and leading programs, groups, and committees. His work is a powerful force for change, particularly as the Chairperson of the Lifer's Group, Inc., a member of their Board of Directors, and the co-founder of its Advocacy and Political Engagement Committee (APEC).
Farooq is also the co-founder and Program Director of Drop LWOP New England, alongside his wife, Dr. Brashani Reece. Through legislative advocacy and community engagement, he works tirelessly to create a world where his own journey of change is possible for others. His story is not just one of redemption, but of using a painful past to build a meaningful future.
